Airwolf 800 Size Scale Helicopter ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) from Roban - RBN-AWS8
This is the Roban Airwolf Scale 800 ARF, a premium scale kit that offers unparalleled detail. From tip-to-tail the Airwolf body kit displays an accuracy of detail to the fictional full scale aircraft from the TV series, the kind of attention to detail not normally seen in the RC helicopter hobby.
This kit comes with a fully illuminated scale detail cockpit with illuminated instrument panel and overhead panel, joysticks, rudder pedals, aerials, windshield wipers, antenna, weapons, the special camera on each side of the fuselage and more. Floor and ceiling details can be crafted so once the interiors are installed you have an impressively scaled cockpit/interior. This kit includes electric retracts that are easy to install for that extra level scale appeal.
These scale kits house the cockpit in precisely the right location and the mechanics are built into the engine compartment just like in the full scale version. The Airwolf really impresses with the highly detailed and accurately scaled down profile.
Please Note: The underside rocket launcher (RBN-AW8RL) is not included with the kit and is sold separately.

Roban Scale Helicopters are intended for modelers who have advanced level building skills. Both ARF and KIT product formats require you to install your own electronics (ESC, servos, motor, etc). KIT product formats also require you to install your own helicopter mechanics. Because helicopter mechanics can vary greatly in size and shape, you may be required to modify the fuselage slightly (including cutting, drilling, etc.) to achieve a perfect fit. Roban fuselages are all handmade from fiberglass and therefore may have slight variation in tolerances between body panels, doors, or windows. These variations do not affect flight performance and can be easily adjusted by an experienced builder with proper tools. These precautions are intended for novice builders; an experienced modeler should have no issue achieving perfect results with these premiere scale helicopters kits.

I bought my version from Scale.de, but it’s the same size and scale but just in matte black finish. The helicopter fiberglass is flawless, but that is where I ended my build with stock hardware. I discarded the stock lights for Dimension Engineering light sets with the standard nav lights around, but also afterburner red lights in the exhaust. I ditched the stock retract setup and had scale aluminum gear made to install with stiffer springs (it’s auw is about 19.5 lbs). I replaced the ball links with SAB links and the blade pitch control rods with Secraft aluminum turnbuckles. I’ve recently replaced the original motor from a Scorpion 4035 to an Egodrift 4525 530kv motor. I also replaced the stock blades for Align 800’s Anyone looking to buy this kit might ask the question; “Are all these upgrades necessary?” Some are, and some aren’t. Motor, definitely, blades, you may get lucky and receive a balanced set. Turnbuckles - well if you’ve ever tracked and balanced a Heli, you’ll be glad you did. Ball links - the stock will crack at some point and even worse if you leave your Heli in the garage or elements where it is not climate controlled. I installed an Ikon for control and prefer this controller for scale aircraft because it is mostly plug and play and no reason to manipulate PID’s out of the box. It also allows for scale head speeds. I also do NOT install speed servos on these Roban helicopters. Torque is more essential than speed. I prefer Kontronik ESC’s versus any other brand. The governor holds better in my opinion than the the guys in the market, as well as the scale spool up is unmatched.

It would not take a lot for this to be a top-notch model, but Roban definitely goes cheap on the quality… Nevertheless after my first one failed before even taking off, I still did buy another one

Customer service could care less. Also go over all the glue joints as these are either poor or made with not the best adhesive. The helicopter looks great though. I’m building a second one but will change / replace many of the cheap/poor parts :/
