Mega G+ HO Scale 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 White/Blue Slot Car from AFX - AFX22068
Launched in 1964, the Ford Mustang quickly became a trendsetter in the automotive world. Designed to appeal to young drivers with its affordable price and sporty appeal, the Mustang achieved remarkable success, becoming the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A and selling over a million units in less than two years. This iconic car even established its own class, known as the “pony car.”
In mid-1964, seeking to enhance the Mustang's performance, Lee Iacocca enlisted Carroll Shelby to develop a racing version. With a tight deadline, Shelby had only months to create a powerful and agile car capable of competing in the B Production SCCA race category. To qualify, at least 100 street-legal versions had to be produced.
Engineered by Chuck Cantwell and led by Ken Miles for mechanical development, with design graphics by Peter Brock, the project was completed just in time for the 1965 racing season. Featuring a 289 cubic inch V8 engine that delivered 306 horsepower, the Shelby Mustang raced to victory, clinching the B Production National Championships in 1965 and 1966, even outperforming Shelby’s own Cobras. During this period, over 2,300 street versions were produced.
Now, AFX brings the legendary Shelby Mustang to life with a striking white body adorned with original Guardsman Blue metallic race stripes and chrome wheels, capturing the spirit of this iconic vehicle.
