A-4E/F Skyhawk High Performance 80mm EDF Jet - PNP from Freewing - FJ21315P
Version Info: This is the High Performance version of the Freewing A-4E/F Skyhawk 80mm. As of 7/26/2023 this version includes a powerful 3658-2150Kv inrunner brushless motor with 12-blade EDF in addition to the 100A ESC with reverse thrust and hybrid metal gear servos.
Note: All 80mm A-4s sold August 2024 and later now include upgraded retract strut pins with a 6.5mm pin diameter. When purchasing replacement parts, please make sure you purchase the updated parts for your retract pin size.
The A-4 Skyhawk commands a beloved place in aviation history. Designed by the famed Ed Heinemann for Douglas Aircraft in the 1950s, the A-4 was optimized as a multi-role aircraft that used its low weight, high maneuverability, and straightforward reliability to lethal advantage. The Skyhawk’s nearly 70 year history of distinguished service and its continued operation to this day is testament to the timelessness of “Heinemann’s Hotrod.”
To honor this beloved aircraft we proudly offer the Freewing 80mm A-4E/F Skyhawk! The biggest mass produced foam electric A-4 in the world, this flying model is powered by a 3658-2150Kv inrunner motor and 12 blade EDF ducted fan, achieving a top speed of 95 mph/150kph using the recommended 6s 5000mAh battery. This is on the larger side for an 80mm plane - see the comparison photo with our Freewing twin 80mm F-14 to get a sense of the A-4’s overall displacement! Even with all this speed and power, you can use a 7th channel for reverse thrust to slow this plane down. The new ESC is reverse thrust capable out of the box!
The Freewing 80mm A-4E/F Skyhawk features all new fold-and-twist retracts, with durable aluminum trailing link struts for confident operation on rough grass runways. Removable wings, flexible wing wire harnesses, and a magnetic nose cone enable quick takedown for easy transportation. In addition to the A-4’s overall scale profile fidelity, other scale details include plastic split flaps, plastic arrestor hook and cannon barrels, and plastic intakes. A complete ordnance package is also included, featuring detachable magnetic fuel tanks and AGM-12 Bullpup missiles and outer pylons, and a removable refueling probe. The ultimate in PNP convenience, only twelve screws and one glue joint complete the primary assembly of the aircraft. Brass ball links, reliable control hardware, and digital servos provide positive control as you dominate the skies in your ‘Scooter’!
Adding to the model’s visual versatility, the later version avionics “hump” is also included! Attach this magnetic “hump” onto the fuselage’s upper spine to change between two variants of the Skyhawk. A waterslide decal set is pre-applied, depicting a US Navy A-4 from VA-22.
We recommend the Freewing 80mm A-4E/F Skyhawk for Intermediate pilots and above with prior experience on other Freewing 80mm EDF jets, operating on paved or short cut grass runways. Flying with full ordnance and the avionics hump gives pilots a different experience than flying fully clean, so we encourage pilots to try all configurations. We prefer flying without the draggy fuel tanks, but with the Bullpup missiles, both for “cool” factor and for orientation. In the air, the Freewing A-4 is a balance between the Freewing F-86 and the Freewing Mirage –easy to fly yet quick to disappear! Like a typical delta wing, the A-4 bleeds speed in turns, and has a very fast and axial roll rate. See the manual for flap-to-elevator mixing to bring in your Skyhawk slow and slightly nose high for perfect landings every time!

Great scale model of the A-4!
Beautifully rendered model of the iconic A-4 "scooter"! I love all the scale details and it flies well with very predictable handling. Love it!

Packaging was the usual good sturdy quality with minor scuffs to the outer casing. In casing fine and more importantly, the product was fine. I am impressed with the model but reminds me of the finish quality of the F4 Phantom that I bought. Not quite as good as others ..... thinking Mig29 and F14 tomcat. Some of the joints in the foam moulds are a bit lacking. Not really bad but just not quite as well finished. The overall quality of the surfaces are good and only really one little bit at one of the wing roots that was a bit iffy. Not enough to complain about really. Thankfully it's not one of their more expensive models. It does look impressive even when just putting the nose, main fuse and tail pi3ce together for effect. It looks great. I have not built it yet as such and won't be for some time so can't really comment on the finished build or flight characteristics yet ..... but generally just checking out of the box, I'd say it's worth the money and the service from Motion RC and FedEx was first class as always. Keep up the good work guys. One happy customer

I was two clicks of left and two clicks of up and that was it. Not a high alpha plane/3D jet but a great plane to warm up on. Assembly was easy, the battery bay is large and can take from a 4k to 6k size. Balance is a little bit of a challenge due to being slightly tail heavy, my 5k Admiral goes as far forward as the tray will allow. I added an extra heavy magnet to the nose cone center to pick up an ounce or two in the nose. A very good value airplane for those trying to save a few bucks.
