Are you looking for your first EDF jet or are you a more advanced pilot looking for a new EDF? Look no further. While great for people new to EDF jets, The Freewing F9F Panther is fast and agile enough for experienced pilots too. The Freewing F9F is one of our favorite jets. While this F9F Panther EDF is not for beginner flyers, it is perfect for the intermediate flyer looking for their first EDF jet. There is not an easier EDF jet to fly.

Unlike many EDF jets, the Freewing F9F actually floats for an extended period of time without throttle (assuming a correct CG). The F9F is powerful enough to loop and has a fantastic roll rate. We recommend hand launching and belly landing in the grass for pilots new to EDF jets. The F9F is built from durable EPO foam and uses nylon hinges. While a 1600 mAh LiPo is recommended, a 2200 mAh battery can be used by more experienced pilots with minor modification to the battery compartment. We highly recommend a high wing trainer for beginners and proficiency with at least one low wing plane before attempting to fly an EDF jet.

Note: Please sand the paint off on the fuselage and wing surface prior to gluing together.

what is the scale of the F9F Airplane? I was thinking of installing a pilot bust in the cockpit. So I need to know what size scale pilot I need to use.

I used this one https://www.motionrc.com/products/freewing-38mm-1-4-jet-pilot-figure-fp12420 It will need to be cut down until it clears the canopy. Comparing wingspans of the actual versus the model the scale would be 1/15.563 To get it to balance the floorpan will need to be cut out from the elevator servo forward. (I used an oscillating tool with a saw blade.) Make a battery tray that will let you use an 1800mah lipo. I used velcro and a strap. Its natural balance is way tail heavy.

There is no onboard Gyro - I fitted a Byme A which works a treat. This is a fantastic model that flies great - ideal for a first EDF. Great value.

Hi The F9F Panther does not come with gyros as standard. I don't use gyros, but the AS3X system would provide you with stabilization. Try it and see

I have a Spectrum 6 channel 2.4GHz receiver with DSMX technology (AS3X) stabilization. Will this work in this aircraft???? P.S. I know it's kind of Overkill with a 6-channel receiver going into a three-channel plane but it's been laying in my workshop for about a year. Would really like to use it in this plane if it will work??🤔

Yes, it will work well. I had two Panthers, one with a Spektrum AR630 and another using a AR637T. I used channel 4 (rudder) to control the nose wheel for the optional fixed landing gear. Also, upgraded the ESC to a 40 amp and run the motor using a 1550 4S battery. All worked well, just be careful with aggressive maneuvers because you don’t have a rudder to get you out of trouble. This is a great EDF airplane!

Yes, I have a Spectrum AR630 DSMX 6-Channel AS3X & SAFE receiver in my Grumman F9F Panther and it flew great. I recommend you put 2 (forward and aft) wing skids on the bottom of the aircraft to protect the belly upon landings. I also used a 3S 1800mAh battery using the manual CG setting. Toss it, at full power, at about 30 degree angle into the air with some force. Works every time. Happy flying!

Hey is this a good plane to start EDF?I have flown for about a year now and want a challenge to get me better.

No! This planes cg is critical and you need a gyro (which this aircraft does not have), at least initially, to fly and get used to this plane. Plus it does not come with landing gear, so if you have never hand launched an EDF, your in for trouble. This aircraft would be a second or third EDF. The Arrow Marlin or the E-flite Habu would be way better.

This was my first EDF, worked out good for me, little under powered but that's not a bad thing when learning. I think it's a good economical choice

I would say this is an excellent novice plane. I would suggest putting a programmable SAFE type receiver in it. I’ve been flying EDF’s for a little over a year and still rely on SAFE for hand launching to avoid catastrophe. If you are flying from a grass field I would avoid the landing gear, but if from paved surface it might be a worthwhile addition. My Panther flies great and is fast enough to be a challenge without getting into serious trouble. I fly it on an 1800mAh 3S battery, all the way forward, which required a bit of creative sanding of the fuse to get it to fit under the nose cowl. I did not have to add any nose weight for neutral flight. Go for it. It’s fun!
