                          These can take a beating.

                          Im not the best at landing in strong crosswinds, but i really wanted to fly my f14 because I’m a **** and was getting bored with not having to fix...read moreIm not the best at landing in strong crosswinds, but i really wanted to fly my f14 because I’m a **** and was getting bored with not having to fix or replace anything lately. The plane was crabbing pretty bad and i didn’t pull off the final bit to straighten it out before landing. It ended up being pushed to the grass just off the runway when i touched down. The plane pulled a sick sideways drift in the short dry grass like a boss for what seemed ages. The landing gear took a beating after managing to find and hit the only patch of gofer holes in the entire area. I thought for sure the gear would snap under from the mass of the f14 and i would be ordering a new fuselage and spending all that time again remounting the aluminum reinforcements plates that kept the gear from ghosting the plane in the first place. But right side little ****** did its job, kept the plane up right, and took the hit in the form of a badly bent strut, the plastic casing on the mechanism cracked all the way through, but leaving everything else with the plane un damaged. So yah, 5 stars man. Very well built. Not anything like other companies that fold and break after hitting a goose **** on the runway. At first i just plastic welding the case together and beat the strut straight enough to be usable, and it worked for a couple weeks until it started getting unusually wobbly on take offs and landings. I thought to check it, but i remembered that the pros never checked their planes so i kept flying it. Discovered later in the shop that the casing was broken again and was only holding together with the four mounting screws into the fuse. I couldn’t believe the retract still managed to open and close without a problem. The durability totally earned my respect and a few dollars to just get a new one only cause the old one was being bronzed to be memorialized for ever as the “little landing gear that could.”
