Can you replace a 5 or 6 blade fan directly with this 12-blade fan? Or do you need the other parts found in the 12-blade Ducted fan unit SKU: P0642?

You cannot, you have to use the P0642.

The 12 blade impeller uses a 5mm shaft. If you're using a 5mm shaft adapter already, or your motor has a 5mm shaft, it's a simple swap. (Note: this impeller will cause motor to draw more current. )

If possible, use all new parts with the new 12 blade fan. If other parts work, they can be used also. I have had success using prop adapters.

does this fan require a larger speed control

Assuming you are moving from a 6 blade to a 12 blade setting, you will typically need a larger amp ESC to power your EDF. More blades means more air resistance, which means more current draw. You should be safe with an ESC approx 25% larger (amps) than your stock ESC. Remember to also provide adequate cooling when moving to a larger ESC.
